What are built-in agents?
Ploy ships two built-in agents, and you manage both on the Luna page under Agents, on the In-built tab. A built-in agent is persistent background work: once it runs, it watches for its kind of work and acts on its own, with no session for you to start.
The two built-in agents
Agent | What it does | Default state |
|---|---|---|
Flow Error Analyzer | "Watches every flow failure, diagnoses it, and fixes what it safely can." | Enabled |
Luna Access Review Agent | "Helps get access reviews completed on time." | Disabled; it enables when the first access-review cycle is delegated to Luna |
Flow Error Analyzer is on from day one. If you don't want it running yet, disable it from its card on the In-built tab.
What built-in means
Ploy defines a built-in agent's goal, instructions, and tools, so the capability is the same in every organization; each card carries a Built by Ploy marker. What your organization controls is whether the agent runs and what it may do.
Built-in agents are not user-authored agents, playbook sessions, or generated flows. They are standing jobs that stay with your workspace instead of ending when a single session ends.
Where built-in agents live
Open the Luna page and go to the Agents area. It has five tabs: Overview, Active, In-built, History, and Settings. The In-built tab lists both built-in agents.
What a built-in agent card shows
Each card gives you everything you need to decide whether to run the agent:
The agent's name
A Built by Ploy marker
Its current status
A one-line tagline
A description of what the agent does
The card also carries the actions for managing the agent:
View agent
Enable now
Enable
Disable
Restart
Enable or disable a built-in agent
Open the Luna page and go to Agents.
Open the In-built tab.
On the agent's card, click Enable now or Enable to turn it on, or Disable to turn it off.
Disabling an agent does not delete its history. The agent's past activity stays available, and you can enable it again later.
Statuses
A built-in agent's status is one of four values:
Enabled
Disabled
Enabling soon...
Enables when needed
The Luna Access Review Agent shows Enables when needed: it stays off until the first access-review cycle is delegated to Luna.
Permissions
Viewing the built-in agents list requires the work job read permission. Enabling, disabling, or restarting an agent requires the work job write permission.
Built-in agents vs. playbooks and generated flows
Luna gives you three ways to get automated work, and they differ in who starts them and how long they last:
Built-in agents are standing background jobs defined by Ploy. Once enabled, they run on their own.
Playbooks start a one-off session that you kick off when you want something investigated (What are Luna playbooks?).
Generated automation flows are draft workflows Luna builds from your description, for you to review before activating (Generate automation flows with Luna AI).
For how each built-in agent behaves in practice, see How Flow Error Analyzer works and How Luna Access Review Agent works. If you're new to Luna, start with Getting started with Luna.
