HackerRank for Work
Connect HackerRank for Work to Ploy to see every user on your HackerRank for Work account, the role and admin rights each one holds, who has not activated their account yet, who has been locked, when each user was last active, and which teams they belong to. Ploy can also add users, change a user's role, lock users, and add or remove users from teams.
This integration is in beta
The HackerRank for Work integration is in beta. It was built from HackerRank's documented REST API and has not yet been run against a live HackerRank for Work account, so some behaviour may differ from what is described here until it has.
The first step of setup is a consent checkbox. Ticking it lets Ploy send redacted error data to its own monitoring when a call to HackerRank fails. Redacted means secrets, tokens and personal details are removed before anything is stored. Ploy uses it only to fix problems with the integration. You need to tick it to continue.
What Ploy reads
Every user on the connected account (recruiters, developers, interviewers and admins), with their email address, name and role.
Company admin and team admin rights, shown beside the role.
Users who were added but have not activated their account yet, shown as pending.
Locked users, shown as no longer having access.
When each user was last active in HackerRank for Work.
Every team, and which users belong to it.
Candidates (the people taking tests and interviews) are not users of your account and are not read.
What Ploy can change
Add a user by email, with a role (Interviewer if none is chosen) and, optionally, a team. HackerRank sends them an invitation email unless you turn it off, which HackerRank recommends only if your account signs in with single sign-on. Adding someone who is already a user counts as done and leaves them as they are.
Change a user's role to Recruiter, Developer or Interviewer. Admin rights are changed in HackerRank.
Lock a user. HackerRank locks users rather than deleting them, and locking also removes them from every team. This is how Ploy takes access away.
Add or remove a user from a team, from the team's page in Ploy. Adding a locked user to a team unlocks them with their existing role, which is HackerRank's only way to unlock someone.
Before you start
You need a HackerRank for Work API key, generated by a company admin:
Sign in to HackerRank for Work as a company admin.
Open Settings, then API, and generate an API key.
Copy the key in full. It acts for the whole account, so store it as you would an admin password.
Connect HackerRank for Work
In Ploy, open Integrations and choose HackerRank for Work.
Tick the beta consent checkbox.
Paste the API key.
Select Test to check the key. Ploy reads your account's users with it to confirm it works.
Save the connection. The first scan starts straight away.
To connect another HackerRank for Work account, add another connection with that account's key.
Troubleshooting
HackerRank rejected that API key: check it was copied in full and has not been regenerated since.
HackerRank accepted the key but refused to list your users: generate the key while signed in as a company admin.
A user cannot be added to a team: the team may have reached its seat limit for that role. HackerRank's own message is shown in Ploy.
