Dropbox
Connect your Dropbox Business team to Ploy to see everyone on the team, their status, their admin roles and the groups they belong to. Ploy can also invite people to the team, suspend and restore them, remove them, and add or remove them from groups.
This integration is in beta
The Dropbox integration is in beta. It is built to Dropbox's documented API but has not yet been run against many real teams, so some details may change as we learn from early customers.
Because it is in beta, the first step of setup is a consent checkbox. Ticking it lets Ploy capture redacted error data when a call to Dropbox fails: the error responses Dropbox sends back, with secrets and personal information removed, kept only to help us debug the integration. Ploy captures this only because you agreed to it, and only while the integration is in beta.
What Ploy reads and changes
Every team member, including invited, suspended and removed members.
Each member's status. Suspended and removed members are shown as blocked and lose their access in Ploy. Invited members are shown as not yet joined.
The admin roles assigned directly to each member, shown as entitlements.
Every team group, and which groups each member belongs to.
When you ask it to, Ploy invites people by email, suspends and restores members, removes members from the team, and adds or removes members from groups.
Ploy does not read file contents, shared folders or shared links.
Before you start
You need a Dropbox Business team and an account that is a team admin.
You create a small Dropbox app for Ploy in the Dropbox App Console. It stays in your own Dropbox account and only your team authorizes it.
Step 1: Create a Dropbox app
Sign in to the Dropbox App Console with your team admin account and choose to create an app.
Choose Scoped access, and give the app access to your team rather than a single user's files. The exact labels on this screen may differ.
Name the app, for example Ploy, and create it.
On the app's Permissions tab, tick
members.readandgroups.read. To manage people from Ploy, also tickmembers.write,members.deleteandgroups.write. Save the changes. On the app's Settings tab, add this redirect URI:
https://api.joinploy.com/integrations/auth/dropbox/callbackKeep the Settings tab open. You need the App key and App secret in the next step.
Step 2: Connect Dropbox in Ploy
In Ploy, go to Integrations and choose Dropbox.
Tick the beta consent checkbox.
Paste the App key and the App secret from your Dropbox app, then continue.
Click Connect to Dropbox, sign in as a team admin and allow the app.
Back in Ploy, test the connection. Ploy reads your team's groups to confirm it can see your team.
The first scan starts after setup. Ploy reads your groups first and then your members, and rescans every hour.
Troubleshooting
Dropbox rejected this connection: grant access again, signed in as a team admin.
The Dropbox app is missing a permission: tick the permissions listed in Step 1 on the app's Permissions tab, save, and grant access again. Dropbox only applies new permissions when access is granted again.
The Connect to Dropbox button is disabled: save the App key first; the button needs it.
A change from Ploy fails with a permission message: the app is missing
members.write,members.deleteorgroups.write, or access was granted by someone who is not a team admin.
